KING OF ‘94 TOURNAMENT RULES

1. In-Game Settings

5 minute periods, no offsides, penalties on, no line changes, manual goalie

2. Selecting Teams:

A coin flip will take place. This is done through discord. One player will say heads or tails and the other player will type “!flip” in the discord to get a result or heads or tails. The loser of the coin flip will choose two different teams that will play. The winner of the coin flip picks their team from the two chosen and will play as the Home team.  All-Star teams are ineligible.

Round Robin: You must pick 8 different teams for your four called matchups as the visiting team

Example: You could pick NYR vs BOS, CHI vs DET and MTL vs TOR, STL vs PHI for your four called matchups. You've used 8 different teams. The teams your opponent has previously selected for their matchups are not impacted by your decision to choose the matchups you want.

King of 94 bracket: In each best of 3 series Games 1, 2 (and 3 if necessary) must all have different teams. This rule resets for each new series. Different teams must be used for the entire series regardless of who is picking them.

Example:  The coin toss loser calls NYR/BOS for game 1. Game 2, the coin flip reverses, and the coin toss loser must pick two other teams, they choose CHI/DET. If there's a game 3, the coin toss loser can pick any match up that doesn't include NYR, BOS, CHI or DET. They choose HFD vs NYI.

If the same two players meet later in the tournament, then no coin flip would take place. The player who won the previous coin flip will now choose the teams. If they meet for a third time, then they reverse 'coin flip results' again, and so on.

3. If there is a game malfunction, please save the state, then reload the state and start the game from there.

If this is not possible, then the game will restart with the score of the game and play the number of periods that were remaining (a partial period would count as a full period).

Example: The score is 3-1 for Player A and the game malfunctions half-way through the 3rd period. The game is restarted, with the same teams, and 1 whole period is played. The score in the new game is 3-0 Player B. The total score is 4-3 Player B, so Player B wins. If the total score is tied, use the next period(s) as the overtime period.

4. No games will end in a tie. We are using the playoff rom which has endless overtime. Play until the game is over.

5. Changing Goalies: Goalies may be changed before the opening face-off and during play stoppages. You cannot change goalies during a face-off, or when a penalty shot is called.

6. Substituting for an Extra Attacker: This is the only time pausing is allowed during gameplay. The goalie can be pulled at any time when the puck is in the neutral zone or in your offensive zone. You must have control of the puck if you are pulling him when in your defensive zone. You can only put the goalie back in immediately after a whistle (before a faceoff).

7. You can use any controller or keyboard to play.

8. Editing lines:

A. Line-up changes will be allowed at the beginning of the game, when there is an injury to a player, during intermissions and when a time out is called (by either team). If you would like to make a change at intermission, please notify your opponent that you wish to do, so they can allow you the time before the start of the next period.

B. At the beginning of the game, both players can change their lines and the Home team gets the last change. If someone starts the game before the other player has changed their lines, the game can be restarted if the puck has not been dropped yet; just declare that you would like to restart before the puck drops. Please be fast when picking your starting line-up. One minute should be more than enough time.
C. During period intermissions, we prefer you to change your lines before the intermission, but you are allowed to change them during the intermissions. However, if your opponent starts the next period before you got the chance to change your lines, the game will continue, and you cannot change your line before the puck drops.
D. Line changes during the game should not take more than 20 seconds. Please be respectful and keep it short.
E. If you try to change your lines at an unapproved time, you must revert your changes before play can resume.

Note for Sega Players: Due to a bug in the game, the exact attribute values reported in the Edit Lines and Team Roster screens are not accurate, they are only in the range of possible values for that player (other than weight, which is the correct value). So please do not spend lots of time looking for who is playing better that game based on those values, consider them only ballpark numbers.

9. 6 goal mercy rule: Once a player has a 6 goal spread, at any point, the game is considered finished and that score will be recorded. Do not continue playing the game.

10. Halifax and Smozoma will be designated to resolve any disputes not covered under the rules.
