What is the King of 94?

The King of 94 is the annual world championship tournament for the video game NHL'94. There are two seperate tournaments. One tournament is played on the Sega Genesis console and the other is played on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Players have travelled from all across North America to compete and can play in one or both tournaments. The winner of each tournament is crowned the "King of 94" and receives a trophy. The top three place finishers are awarded cash prizes.

This tournament was started in 2015 by Mike McBryan while he was filming his documentary about NHL'94 titled "Pixelated Heroes". He hosted a tournament at Real Sports Bar in Toronto that had 128 entries. Since that time, three more world championship tournaments have taken place in Las Vegas (2017), Vancouver (2018), and again in Toronto (2019).
